Swachh App West Bengal: The West Bengal government has officially launched the Swachh App, a new technology-driven initiative aimed at making towns and cities cleaner, greener, and more organized. The app was inaugurated on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The project initially started as a pilot program in 10 municipalities across the state and will later be expanded to other urban areas.
What Is the Swachh App 2026?
The Swachh App is a geo-tagged mobile application designed to help citizens directly report cleanliness and civic issues in their locality. Residents can click photographs of garbage dumps, overflowing drains, littered roads, public spitting, waste accumulation, and other sanitation-related problems and upload them through the app. The complaint will automatically reach the concerned municipal authority for action.

According to the state government, the main goal is to improve cleanliness, public hygiene, and civic discipline across West Bengal. Key Features of the Swachh App
1. Upload Garbage Photos
Citizens can take photographs of garbage lying on roads, open waste dumps or unclean public places and submit them through the app.
2. Geo-Tagged Complaints
Every complaint is location-based, allowing municipal authorities to identify the exact spot where the issue exists.
3. Fast Action by Municipalities
Officials have stated that after a complaint is registered, the concerned civic body will be expected to resolve the issue quickly. In many cases, action is targeted within two hours.
4. Complaint Tracking
Residents can monitor whether their complaint has been addressed by the authorities. Municipal workers will also upload proof after completing the cleaning work.
5. Information on Cleanliness Rules
The app will also provide information about sanitation regulations, waste disposal guidelines and civic responsibilities.

What Will Be Penalized?
The government has announced stricter action against people who:
- Throw garbage on the roads
- Spit in public places
- Throw pan or gutkha stains on walls and roads
- Dump waste indiscriminately
- Litter markets and public spaces
- Urinate in public places
However, instead of immediately imposing fines, the government will first conduct a three-month awareness campaign.
When Will Fines Start?
The awareness campaign will continue until August 2026. From 1 September 2026, strict penalties and fines will be imposed on those violating sanitation rules. Municipal laws will be used to take action against offenders.
Dustbins Every 100 Metres
To make proper waste disposal easier, the government has announced that dustbins will be installed at approximately every 100 metres in urban areas. Authorities believe this will reduce littering and encourage people to use designated waste collection points.
