GMRC Limited has released a recruitment notification for an experienced senior-level professional for the post of Chief General Manager/General Manager (Corporate Planning). The appointment will be made on a contract or deputation basis, with one vacancy announced.

According to the notification, GMRC is recruiting for the following position:

For candidates appointed on contract, the remuneration is based on the IDA pay scale of ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,80,000. What is GMRC?
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited is a 50:50 joint venture of the Government of India and Government of Gujarat. The organisation is responsible for establishing and operating rail-based mass rapid transport services in Gujarat.
GMRC was incorporated in February 2010 as a state government entity and was converted into a 50:50 joint venture between the Centre and Gujarat government in March 2015. It was renamed Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation in December 2018.
The notification states that GMRC currently operates 68.23 km of the Ahmedabad Metro across 53 stations in Phases I and II, extending to Gandhinagar. Construction is also underway for 40 km of the Surat Metro, including a 6.5-km underground section. Further metro expansion projects are also in the planning stage.

Experience in coordinating with government authorities, Central and State PSUs and managing large-scale infrastructure projects will be important for the role. Candidates with experience in major railway or metro infrastructure projects are preferred. Experience with international lending agencies such as JICA, AFD and KfW is also preferred.
Age limit
The maximum age is:
- 57 years for candidates applying on contract
- 58 years for candidates applying on deputation

Experience required for CGM level
The experience requirement varies according to the candidate’s employment background.
For applicants working in government organisations, Metro Rail, Railways, Railway PSUs or PSUs under the IDA system, candidates applying at CGM level must have 20 years of executive experience, including at least 10 years of relevant experience.
They must also have at least four years of experience in the IDA scale equivalent to ₹1,20,000–₹2,80,000 or above, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.
Candidates working under the CDA system also require 20 years of executive experience, including 10 years of relevant experience, along with the specified pay-level experience.
For candidates from private industry, the requirement is 23 years of total executive experience, including 10 years of relevant experience, along with a minimum CTC of ₹2.50 lakh per month, as specified in the notification.
Experience required for GM level
For applicants seeking consideration at GM level, candidates from government organisations, Metro Rail, Railways, Railway PSUs or PSUs must have 17 years of executive experience, including 10 years of relevant experience.
Candidates from private industry must have 20 years of total executive experience, including 10 years of relevant experience, with the notification specifying a minimum CTC of ₹2.25 lakh per month.
What will the selected officer do?
The Corporate Planning role carries substantial project-monitoring and coordination responsibilities.
The selected officer will be involved in monitoring progress across areas such as:
- Civil works
- Systems
- Operations
- Project planning
- Budgeting
- DPR preparation
- R&R activities
- Public relations
- Integration with other transport systems
- Physical and financial progress monitoring
The officer will also coordinate with government departments, railway authorities, financial institutions and other stakeholders to facilitate clearances, approvals and policy support.
The role also involves preparing progress reports and presentations for the GMRC Board and senior management, as well as coordinating matters related to Non-Fare Revenue.
Contract tenure
For candidates appointed on contract, the initial tenure will be three years, unless extended by the competent authority.
Either side can terminate the contract by providing three months or 90 days’ notice, as specified in the recruitment notification.
