WBJEE Counselling Registration 2026: Thousands of engineering aspirants across West Bengal have been eagerly waiting for this moment. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has officially released the counselling notification and complete counselling schedule for WBJEE 2026. The online counselling process for admission to Engineering, Technology and Architecture courses will begin on 30 June 2026.

For many students, the examination is already over. Now comes the most crucial stage—counselling and choice filling. Every year, several candidates fail to secure a better college despite having a good rank, simply because of incorrect choice filling, poor planning, or missing important deadlines.

A WhatsApp Message That Inspired This Article

Yesterday evening, I received a WhatsApp message from a WBJEE aspirant.

The student wrote,

“Sir, my WBJEE rank is decent, but I’m worried about counselling. Everyone is giving different advice. Some are saying to fill only top colleges, while others are suggesting filling as many choices as possible. I don’t want to lose a good college because of a small mistake. Can you explain the entire counselling process in simple language?”

That message made me realize that thousands of students are probably facing the same confusion. So I carefully studied the official WBJEEB counselling notification, counselling schedule, institute details, and admission guidelines before preparing this complete guide. If you are appearing for WBJEE 2026 counselling, this article may save you from making costly mistakes.

Including institutes like Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET).

Private Universities

Many reputed private universities across West Bengal participate.

Private Engineering Colleges

More than a hundred engineering institutions are available through the centralized counselling process.

Single Window Counselling

One of the biggest advantages is that WBJEEB conducts Single Window Counselling.

You only need to register once.

Your seat allotment will be based on:

  • Merit Rank
  • Eligibility
  • Reservation
  • Availability of Seats
  • Order of Choices Filled

There is no need to apply separately to each participating college under centralized counselling.

Registration Fee

Candidates have to pay: 500

The registration fee is non-refundable.

The Biggest Mistake Students Make Every Year

Many students believe that if they fill out only 5–10 colleges, they will automatically get one of them.

This is completely wrong.

The official counselling guideline advises candidates to fill in the maximum possible number of choices. The Board specifically recommends selecting at least 20 choices, as it increases the chances of seat allotment.

Another Common Mistake: Not Locking Choices

Some candidates save their preferences but forget to lock them.

According to the official notification:

  • If you lock your choices before the deadline, those choices will be considered.
  • If you do not manually lock them, the system will automatically lock your last saved choices after the deadline.

Even then, candidates should never wait until the last minute.

Fill Choices Based on More Than Last Year’s Cut-off

Many candidates make another serious mistake. They only compare last year’s closing ranks.

Instead, you should also evaluate:

  • Placement record
  • Faculty
  • Infrastructure
  • Internship opportunities
  • Tuition fees
  • Hostel facilities
  • Alumni network
  • Campus location

The “best” college is not always the one with the lowest closing rank.

TFW Seat? Be Careful

If you are eligible for the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme:

You must separately select:

  • Normal Seat
  • TFW Seat

If you select only one of them, you may lose the opportunity to get the other even if a seat is available.

Three Rounds of Counselling

WBJEE 2026 counselling will be conducted in:

  • Round 1
  • Round 2
  • Round 3

Fresh registration is allowed at the beginning of each counselling round according to the Board’s rules.

Seat Acceptance Fee

Candidates receiving their first allotment must pay: 5,000 Seat Acceptance Fee

Failure to pay within the deadline will result in cancellation of the allotted seat.

Physical Document Verification Is Mandatory

Even after receiving a seat online, admission is not complete.

Candidates must physically report to the allotted institute with original documents for verification.

Failure to report within the prescribed dates will lead to cancellation of the allotted seat.

Important Documents

Candidates should carry:

  • WBJEE Rank Card
  • Allotment Letter
  • Class 10 Admit Card/Birth Certificate
  • Class 10 Mark Sheet
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet
  • Domicile Certificate (if applicable)
  • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS)
  • PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  • TFW Certificate (if applicable)
  • OCI Certificate (if applicable)

along with original documents and self-attested photocopies as required by the institute.

Upgradation Option

After successful verification, candidates must choose:

  • YES – Participate in upgradation for a better choice.
  • NO – Keep the allotted seat and do not participate in further upgradation.

If no option is selected within the stipulated time, the candidate may lose eligibility for further counselling rounds.

Official Websites WBJEE Counselling Registration 2026

Students should rely only on official sources for counselling updates:

Avoid depending on rumours or unofficial social media posts.

WBJEE counselling is not just about your rank. It is about making informed choices.

Every year, students with lower ranks sometimes secure better colleges because they understand the counselling process, while others with higher ranks miss out due to avoidable mistakes.

Read the official notification carefully, fill in a sufficient number of choices, verify your documents in advance, meet every deadline, and do not rush while selecting colleges. A few extra minutes of planning during counselling could determine where you spend the next four years of your engineering journey.

Remember:

A good rank opens the door, but smart counselling helps you enter the right college.
