The Two Biggest Changes in IBPS Clerk 2026

This year’s notification has caught everyone’s attention because of two major updates.

1. Mains Exam Pattern Has Changed

The Preliminary examination remains the same as previous years. However, the Quantitative Aptitude section in the Main examination has been modified.

Earlier, candidates had to solve 35 questions carrying 50 marks. This year, the number of questions has been increased to 40, while the total marks remain 50. The time allotted for this section has not changed.

This means candidates will now have to solve more questions within the same duration, making time management even more important during the Main exam.

2. Credit History Requirement Removed

Another noticeable change is that the notification does not mention the credit history or CIBIL score requirement, which was discussed in the previous recruitment cycle.

Many banking aspirants were concerned about their credit score affecting their eligibility. However, this year’s official notification does not include that condition, offering relief to many candidates.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates must satisfy the following eligibility conditions:

  • Age: 20 to 28 years as on 1 August 2026.
  • Candidates should have been born between 2 August 1998 and 1 August 2006 (both dates inclusive).
  • Age relaxation is available for reserved categories as per Government of India rules.

How to Apply for IBPS Clerk 2026

  • Visit the official IBPS website and register online.
  • Fill in your personal, educational, and category details.
  • Upload your photo, signature, thumb impression, and handwritten declaration.
  • Pay the application fee online.
  • Review the form, submit it, and save a copy for future reference.

Application Dates: 1 August to 21 August 2026.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university before the prescribed cut-off date mentioned in the notification.

Computer Knowledge is Mandatory

One point that candidates often miss is the computer proficiency requirement. Applicants should have basic computer knowledge, which can be proved through:

  • A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Computer Operations or Computer Applications, or
  • Computer or Information Technology as a subject during school or college.

Without fulfilling this requirement, candidates may face issues during document verification.
